ABOUT FACAP
FACAP is the Florida Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention. It was founded as a non-profit corporation in the State of Florida in 1975. The sole purpose of the formation of the Florida Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention was to wage war against the crime of arson.
The membership is made up of investigators and support personnel from the Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations Division of Florida’s State Fire Marshal’s Office, Federal, County and City law enforcement officers throughout the state, fire service personnel, insurance company representatives, private fire and arson investigators, attorneys and others who are engaged, on a continuing basis, in the war against arson in Florida.
FACAP’S MISSION STATEMENT
FACAP’S mission is to provide to the citizens of Florida, the necessary tools to successfully fight the battle against arson through its dedication and commitment to provide the highest level of expert education, professional training, arson awareness, legislative oversight, legal review and evaluations on all matters related to arson, in addition to maintaining and providing for an Arson Rewards Program available to law enforcement and citizens alike.
FACAP’s OBJECTIVES
The Florida Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention has established itself nationally as a leader in the fight against arson. Our primary objectives are:
- Foster cooperation among interested individuals and groups in combating the problem of arson.
- Provide quality education and training on the control, detection and prosecution of arson.
- Review and react to new laws and legislative proposals regarding arson.
- Assist in the creation of appropriate legislation concerning arson.
- Unite for mutual benefit, those public officials and private persons engaged in the control of arson and kindred crimes.
- To provide for the exchange of technical information and its development.
- To cooperate with the fire service, law enforcement agencies, insurance industry, the Florida Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators, and other interested associations to further fire prevention and suppression of arson.
- To encourage and promote high professional standards of conduct among fire and arson investigators.
- To help educate the public as to the expense, severity and seriousness of arson.
